It seems the company wanted to run with one film and see how that went but Howard and co passed on this stating that it'd be unfair to just produce one iteration.
It in no way means that this project is dead but it's a bit of a blow not to come to an agreement with a studio as large (and rich) as Universal.
Howard will probably now sound out other studios but will they be as keen to take on all the films and TV series? It'll need someone with alot of clout and the money to back it up so we'll just have to wait and see.
