Spike Lee To Direct Oldboy Remake

www.tips-fb.com
Ah this has reared its head again has it? I thought this had long been put to sleep but it would appear someone has injected life into the Oldboy remake, that person being Spike Lee.

It would appear Steven Speilberg and Will Smith are out and angry Spike Lee is in. Now before you bemoan this remake consider the following.

The original Oldboy is very loosely based on the Manga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi but took very little from it. The remake is said to stay alot closer to the source material and as such should be very different from Park Chan-Wook's masterpiece.

Now that being sad I still don't think its a good idea as whatever the end product may look like, comparisons are going to be drawn whether they like it or not.

As I've previously stated on the blog, English remakes of foreign films offer nothing new to what has gone before and usually pale in comparison to their counter-parts. So even though this may be a very different film it still has Oldboy to stand up against. And he casts a very, very large shadow.
