Reboot, reboot, reboot. Every other story I seem to post these days all revolve around that particular word, to which I'm becoming rather agitated with.
Original ideas are out of the window and retreading familiar grounds seems to be the 'in' thing. No artistic merit behind this, it's purely to get people into the cinemas with names they know. Like Point Break.
You see, coming up with an a-typical actioner these days won't interest many. However, if you associate it with a beloved film of the past (see Total Recall, The Karate Kid, Conan etc, etc) you'll get more people in to see your film. Looks quite harsh written down like that but that's what's driving it at the moment.
On top of this throw in a gimic like 3D and you can almost double your takings. Smart business sense, but that's a rant for another day.
So it's hardly surprising that as a new week arrives we get news of yet another reboot (remember, it's not a remake, reboot make's it sound like you have at least some originality about your idea) and this time it's Point Break.
The rights have just been snapped up by Alcon Entertainment who have released the following snippet surrounding potential plot “The new version is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring,''
So exactly the same as the original right? So remake right? Oh ... sorry.
